As Daylight Saving Time approaches this weekend, remember to set your clocks forward by one hour.

The concept of Daylight Saving Time was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784, as a jest to encourage people to wake up earlier and use less candlelight. However, it wasn't seriously considered until World War I, when Germany and its allies implemented it to conserve coal. Other countries, including the United States and Britain, soon followed suit.

The idea behind DST was to make better use of daylight during the warmer months, reducing the need for artificial lighting and saving energy. Over the years, the start and end dates of Daylight Saving Time have been adjusted several times. In the United States, the current policy was established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which extended DST by about a month.
